How will you be assessed?

Level 2 and 3 assessment

Each level will be assessed in a similar way, delivery of the topics in the classroom and the workshop will be completed along with the employer involvement content.

Your actual assessment will be in 3 parts they are as follows;

  1. Test of Knowledge via online examination MCQ (multiple choice questions)

  2. Test of skills via a synoptic practical assignment (split into tasks)

  3. Employer involvement-each candidate must undertake meaningful employer involvement as part of their course such as;

students undertake structured work-experience or work-placements that develop skills and knowledge relevant to the qualification;

students undertake project(s), exercises(s) and/or assessments/examination(s) set with input from industry practitioner(s);

students take one or more units delivered or co-delivered by an industry practitioner(s). This could take the form of master classes or guest lectures;

industry practitioners operate as ‘expert witnesses’ that contribute to the assessment of a student’s work or practice, operating within a specified assessment framework. This may be a specific project(s), exercise(s) or examination(s), or all assessments for a qualification.

Andrew Louth kindly came into college to deliver the beginning of the unit 335 to the level 3 advanced technical diploma plumbing students at the College. This unit is about the following; to provide learning in the fundamental working principles along with regulatory requirement relating to renewable energy. Learners will cover how to distinguish the potential type of building features that will meet the requirements to install renewable energy water conservation along with typical benefits and limitations.

Andrew outlined and introduced the learners to a range of technologies including; Air Source heat pumps, Ground Source heat pumps, Solar Thermal hot water and offered an overview on the change of direction of the industry away from fossil fuels. He discussed at length the basic operating principles of the three technologies listed . In addition spoke at length about current and past projects that he and his team are working on. Highlighted to the students factors surrounding installations, building regulations and industry standards.

Andrew will return further in the course and showcase how to install, commission and handover renewable technologies to clients to enable the students to gain a full understanding of the sequencing of planning, installation and handover of environmental technologies and how their skills are vital in this fast moving industry.
