Standard apprenticeship

How is the qualification STRUCTURED?

Phases of Standard

This presentation outlines the phases that each apprentice will undertake, during their time at college and on-site. Detailing the training and assessments, when the training will take place, how and by what method.

Each topic will be delivered using some learning outcomes from the topic, with exceptions but mostly the topic will be delivered in small chunks over the phases of study.

Your college may use their own training pack however, you can see here that the AO has created a training pack to compliment the qualification. This is divided up into phases and you will be trained to achieve the tasks set out in the pack in readiness for the phase practical assignments at the end of each phase.

Exemptions

The exemption document will be looked at by the college/centre and they will agree with you which phase you are to begin. If you are brand new to the plumbing and heating industry and have no qualifications at all you will begin at phase 1.

Phase 1 testing

Each phase has assessments within it, these are practical assessments covering SKILLS and online examinations covering your KNOWLEDGE, your behaviours will also be looked at and discussed with your on-site assessor/employer and trainer in centre. Within the ATM (apprenticeship training manual) there is a section covering behaviours. This is how you act and grow as an individual throughout your training.

Phase 1 - Unit 012- 2 online examinations covering the content from phase 1 and practical assessments split into 4 tasks.

Phase 2 testing

Phase 2 - Unit 022- 1 online examination covering the content covered from phase 2 and practical assessments split into 3 tasks.

Phase 3 testing

Phase 3 - Unit 032- 1 online examination covering the content covered from phase 3 and practical assessments split into 6 tasks. Each candidate will complete 3 of the same and then 3 will be determined by the centre.
